Lineal is about your family, so what you tell it is private by default. This page says, plainly, what we keep, why, and how to delete it.

What you give us

• Your family tree: the names, dates and places you enter, and where you think each family came from.
• Your account: an account is made for you when you first save your tree, so it's backed up. If you add your email, we use it to sign you in and nothing else.
• Questions you send to relatives, and their answers. Only you see the answers. Your relative sees the question and your first name, if you gave it.
• A few choices: the time of your daily reminder, and whether your family is "complicated" (adoption, an unknown parent), which only changes how your tree is drawn.
• Surnames we don't recognise, so a researcher can add them to Lineal. They're kept with your account so we know which names people are waiting on.
• The waitlist: if you join it on this site, your email address. We send one email to confirm it's you, and one more the day Lineal is out. Nothing else.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers. There are no ads.
• We don't use tracking or analytics that follow you around the web.
• We don't take DNA. If Lineal ever offers to read DNA results, it will ask you first.

Payments

Lineal Plus is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your card. We receive a record of the subscription, linked to your Lineal account, so we know you have Plus.

Where it's kept

Your data is stored with Supabase, in the United States, protected so that only you, and family members you invite, can reach your tree. This website and the answer page are hosted by Vercel, and waitlist emails are sent by Resend. These companies process data for us and aren't allowed to use it for anything else.

Deleting everything

In the app, go to Kin, then Delete account. That deletes your account, your tree, your questions and their answers, immediately and permanently. To leave the waitlist, use the link in any email we send you, or email us. For anything else, email us too.

Children

Lineal isn't for children under 13 on their own. Family plans for children will be managed by a parent and will ask for their consent.
